Pritam Singh Cheema

Pritam Singh is a man whom many youngsters look up to for motivation. For someone with a very humble background, to retire as Senior Electrical Engineer from merchant navy is definitely an achievement worth imitating by every school going kid nurturing dreams of a prosperous and dignified future.

Pritam Singh was born in village Cheema that now comes under Moga district. After Matriculation he joined Indian Navy as a boy. He was then selected as Artificer Apprentice for four year Electronics and Communication Engineering Degree Course. After Indian Navy he joined in the Merchant Navy and retired as a Senior Electrical Engineer.

Pritam Singh is a technology evangelist and whenever he visits his home village, there is some new Electronic gadget for village folks to see. When people used simple Tape Playing instruments for listening music, he would be there with sophisticated digital Walkmans. When getting your photo developed was a luxury, he would be having cameras that printed on the spot. He was among the first to bring home Casio synthesizers, programmable VCRs and TVs, Digital Diaries and Cell Phones. You name it and he would be among the first.

For people at village Cheema, he is the first Engineer and for our whole family he is the Newton because we are able to see most of the new inventions only because of him.

A man of honour he took time to visit the INS Khukri memorial and clear the mist created by some distorted writings regarding the great Captain Mahinder Nath Mulla, who going by the honourable traditions of Indian Navy, choose to go down with INS Khukri.
